The Tourist

The Tourist stages an encounter in which the roles are deliberately unclear. A woman stands at the edge of the sea dressed for leisure, while an unidentified flying object hovers above her. The title leaves the central question unresolved: is she the tourist, or is the visitor from elsewhere the one taking in the sights?

With a playful nod to conspiracy theories claiming that extraterrestrials already live among us, the photograph imagines a less dramatic possibility. Perhaps they have not come to conquer, warn, or abduct us. Perhaps they are simply curious. Perhaps Earth is only another destination: a place to observe our rituals, study our habits, photograph our beaches, and briefly escape the routines of another planet.

The image combines the visual language of vintage science fiction, fashion photography, and the holiday postcard. Its humor emerges from this collision. The ordinary and the extraordinary share the same sky, while neither appears especially alarmed by the other.

Beneath its comic surface, The Tourist reflects on the instinct to imagine ourselves as the centre of every encounter. We assume that extraterrestrial life, should it appear, would arrive with a grand purpose concerning humanity. But what if we are not the main event? What if we are simply part of the scenery?

The work turns alien visitation into a mirror of tourism itself: the desire to look, to catalogue, to briefly inhabit another world, and then return home with a story.

It is important to avoid direct contact with sunlight. If you want to save the artwork, instead of having it exposed, it should be done in a drawer and protected with a tissue paper or any other soft paper.

If you exhibit the artwork in a room, it must be protected by glass or methacrylate with UV protection.

If you want to frame it, the materials must be acid free as well as the passepartout. If the frame is made of wood and is in direct contact with the photo, it must be made of natural wood and without varnish.

Adhesives must also be acid free. If not, any other adhesive could leave yellow marks and deteriorate the support.

The work should never be touched directly with the hands in order to avoid leaving traces of grease or moisture. You have to touch it with cotton gloves like the ones that we enclose inside the package.

Do not screw the photograph back on after it has been removed from the tube in case you have received it like that.

Store the work in a cool, dry place preferably at a room temperature between 10º and 30º with a relative humidity between 49% and 60%.

If you have acquired more than one photograph, they should never be touched between them since the surface is very sensitive. You should always put a tissue paper or, at least, another soft paper between the both of them.
