  • In The Housewife, Lídia Vives dissects the archetype of the ideal woman through a meticulously staged scene: a retro advertisement aesthetic, a garden of perfect roses, a female figure embodying the cliché of the flawless housewife. Everything seems drawn from a glossy fantasy.

But something is out of place.

The protagonist holds a burning rose—not as a romantic gesture, but as an improvised lighter with which she tries to ignite a cigarette that, significantly, remains unlit. That simple act subverts everything else. The rose—classical symbol of love and femininity—becomes a tool of resistance. The cigarette, still unlit, stands as a metaphor for a rebellion restrained, perhaps domesticated by the years.

Within that gesture lie frustration, irony, and memory: the memory of a life that once dreamed of freedom, of movement, of bohemia. The beauty of the set contrasts with the tension of the character, who remains impassive, trapped in a world of plastic flowers and cardboard skies.
