  • This photograph is born from a family anecdote that has been passed down through generations, becoming a kind of domestic legend. In 1987, the artist’s parents were on their honeymoon in Seville. At that very moment, the World Chess Championship between Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov was being held there. As chess enthusiasts, they decided to attend one of the matches.

The artist’s mother, dressed in a striking red dress, high heels, and matching lipstick, entered the hall, breaking the absolute silence with the sound of her steps. Karpov looked up and stared at her for a few seconds. It was then that a guard approached to ask her to make less noise.

Kasparov won that game. Perhaps it was a coincidence, or perhaps not. At home, the story has always been told this way: that it was she who distracted Karpov. And, as the artist says, she prefers to believe it.

The image visually reinterprets that moment with an aesthetic infused with vintage references, humor, and elegance—bringing the personal closer to the cinematic.
